Gastric Sleeve and Gastric Bypass Surgery in Turkey

In a gastric sleeve surgery, the aim is to make the patient feel full with very little food by reducing the volume of the stomach. In this surgery, a specific part of the stomach (the part that stretches the most, expands, and regulates appetite) is surgically removed, leaving behind a tubular stomach (about the size of a banana). Due to the hormone called ghrelin, which is excreted from the removed part of the stomach, appetite control and a feeling of satiety are provided. Sleeve gastrectomy operations are also performed using the laparoscopic method. The operation is performed by penetrating the abdominal cavity through small incisions.

Sleeve gastrectomy operations and gastric sleeve operations cost around 10,000 euros. If your BMI is below 35, you can also opt for a cheap gastric balloon (from 2,499 €). This allows you to shrink your stomach without surgery.

If gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy surgery is medically necessary, your health insurance will cover the costs. This is common in people with a BMI over 40 and unsuccessful attempts to lose weight under medical supervision. The risks of surgery are usually lower than those of obesity. After treatment, blood pressure often drops and diabetes medications can be reduced or stopped altogether. In addition, those affected can quickly walk again without shortness of breath.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Turkey

The surgery for gastric sleeve is performed after some procedures in Turkey. We can list them as follows. Before the stomach outlet, an average of 7 cm long line should be maintained.

The probe (diameter 39 French) called the gastric tube must be used, and the gastric sleeve must be carried out under its control. If this does not happen with the probe, technical problems occur, stomach constrictions occur or the stomach can be completely closed. Then there can be a leakage at the seam and lead to death. This is one of the main causes of stomach leaks.

When the surgery is finished, it is important to control the surgery, test it by adding blue dye to the stomach, determine if there is a leak, and close the open areas with appropriate sutures.

One of the most important points in the operation is the apex, which we call fundus, and the complete separation of the stomach from the spleen is technically difficult. This is the most important and dangerous leak site that can occur in the stomach. Proper differentiation of this region is a factor influencing the success of the operation. If the part of the stomach called fundus (the area in which the hormone ghrenin is released) is not or only insufficiently removed, the hormone ghrenin remains high, causing the feeling of satiety to disappear.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Price 2023

Many clinics charge a similar price for gastric sleeve surgery. This price is usually between 7,000 and 10,000 euros. The cost of treating obesity depends on the method used and the length of stay. We have compiled an overview of the individual prices for medical practices for you. The costs consist of several components. In addition to the actual treatment, the fee includes consultation, preliminary examination and aftercare.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Before and After

If this is possible before surgery, a diet should be carried out and some weight should be lost. This procedure both reduces the risks associated with surgery and can make the surgical procedure easier if it reduces the size of the liver. In preparation for surgery, all routine surgical tests are performed. Respiratory functions are assessed. In addition, the stomach is examined endoscopically for possible stomach pathologies before surgery. In addition to the appropriate examinations, the opinion of the cardiologist, endocrinologist, thoracic, psychiatric and anesthesiologist for gastric reduction surgery is sought. The evening before, the patient is treated on an empty stomach. The patient is told what to do against the formation of a blood clot and blood thinners are started

Weight loss occurs slowly in the first 3 weeks and quickly in the next month. The complete weight loss process is completed in an average of 6 months. In general, there is a total weight loss of 25 to 35 pounds. In the long term, gastric sleeve surgery does not hurt. If the patient does not pay attention to his diet, he may have difficulty losing weight and encounter nutritional problems.

Patients who do not follow their diet after surgery (for example: those who eat high-calorie liquid foods, non-compliant patients who cannot control their diet) will also gain weight again. Therefore, "gastric bypass surgery" is a more appropriate method of treatment instead of "legume gastrectomy" in patients who have been found to have dietary intolerance.

The most common postoperative problems are tiredness and exhaustion. In addition to rapid weight loss, surgical stress can lead to fatigue. In this case, you should increase your fluid and protein intake and exercise regularly.

  • What is Gastric Clip?

The gastric clip is placed by the surgeon around the stomach wall vertically. The gastric clip is a removal, flexible medical device made up of a silicone-coated titanium structure. It is placed laparoscopically without using staples, without removing any tissue and without making anatomical changes. Due to the laparoscopic operation, the patients may have small incisions. Furthermore, the gastric clip does not require any adjustment or maintenance.

The gastric clip helps limit the amount of consumed food and provide the quicker feeling of fullness as gastric sleeve operation. Seperatedly from the gastric sleeve operation in the gastric clip, the stomach is not taken away from the body. Additionally, it is a reversible. After the reaching ideal weight, the gastric clip can be removed by the surgeons without any complication.

After the gastric clip operation, the patients do not need to stay hospital more than 1 or 2 nights. They can continue their normal life after they are discharged.

It helps adopt the healthier diet, and provides the effective weight loss results. The patients can lose %35 of their excess weight.

It is also important to keep in mind, the gastric clip is not a gastric band or gastric sleeve operation.
