Cancer Surgery
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is an advanced cancer treatment method used particularly for cancers that have spread within the abdominal cavity. During surgery, a heated chemotherapy solution is delivered directly into the abdomen to eliminate microscopic tumor cells that may not be visible to the naked eye.
HIPEC is most commonly used for peritoneal cancers originating from the stomach, colon, ovaries, or appendix. Because the chemotherapy is applied directly to the tumor site, it may be more effective than traditional systemic chemotherapy.
In carefully selected patients, the HIPEC technique can help extend life expectancy and improve quality of life.
